Location: Marston’s brewery – Burton on Trent
Job Length: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week: 8 hour shifts – 6am – 2pm/2pm – 10pm Mon – Fri)

About the role:
We are now recruiting for a Shift Engineering Manager – Site
- Responsible for the safe and hygienic deployment of engineering activities across the Burton site but with particular focus on the brewery and packaging departments
- Management of the engineering function including all welfare and facilities concerns.
- Responsible for organising all routine, preventive and corrective maintenance within the site.
- Responsible for the identification and control of all relevant spare parts, replacement parts and consumables
- Responsible for the supervision of all relevant maintenance contractors.
- Responsible for the implementation of all relevant group Maintenance and TPM standards
- Responsible for the training of all operational teams in Autonomous Maintenance and TPM related tasks
Role Responsibilities:
People leadership, development & management
- Ensure personal safety of engineering and operational teams through the implementation and supervision of practices and machine operation and/or repair.
- Promote a safe working environment by ensuring full compliance with Carlsberg Britvic Health & Safety and LOTO policies.
- Recruit, lead, motivate and develop a flexible and agile multi-disciplined engineering team.
- Effective performance management of all direct reports, focusing on behavioural change that will both inspire and motivate individuals to deliver results.
- Effective deployment of a servient leadership approach focusing on coaching as a fundamental pillar.
- Conduct leadership-led process confirmations, taking every chance to coach and involve teams throughout the process.
- Support and deputise for the Site Engineering manager when required.
- Provide emergency support as necessary and in accordance with the emergency response and incident management procedures / teams.
- Ensure the generation of clear job descriptions for the engineering teams and provide input into job descriptions of operators carrying out autonomous maintenance activities.
Budgeting & Control
- Support the preparation and management of the annual engineering budget
- Review engineering spend and spare parts inventory levels on a routine basis.
- Ensure the brewery CMMS system is used accordingly and that the quality and accuracy of inputs and outputs are meeting the agreed standards and target levels.
- Critically review maintenance practices, successes, failures and improvement opportunities with the objective of constantly improving cost and performance metrics.
- Support and where required take the role in managing material and non-material waste analysis and loss reduction, with cross-functional teams.
- Encourage and fully support standardised problem-solving methodologies, including Gemba Kaizen, RCA & Six Sigma, to resolve day-to-day and chronic problems.
Planning & Coordination
- Ensure that maintenance plans are criticality focussed and prioritised accordingly.
- Review the allocation of daily maintenance work orders and plans to the various maintenance teams across the site
- Supervise the maintenance work throughout the site, including that of operational teams and 3rd party contractors
- Ensure effective organisation of packaging & brewery workshops and spare parts stores.
- Ensure engineering staff are assigned effectively to carry out tasks arising from autonomous maintenance activities
- Ensure sufficient resource is allocated to key initiatives (internal or external)
- Ensure engineering repairs are carried out to the agreed standards and within acceptable timelines.
- Coordinate all engineering activity in the packaging and brewing functions during plant shutdowns focusing on safe engineering deployment and effective resource management.
Performance
- Deliver agreed KPI’s in terms of autonomous/preventative maintenance through the effective deployment of both engineering and operational teams.
- Utilise machine reliability measures of MTBF / MTTR for effective maintenance approaches with a defined machine criticality view.
- Focus on the delivery of engineering results using standard methodologies such as RCM and TPM. Promote these methodologies and ensure they become part of standard work practices.
- Set and communicate clear targets for engineering teams.
- Review performance through a structured PMS system
- Ensure appropriate discipline is deployed with regards to meeting attendance and the management of these meetings
- Ensure meeting actions are agreed and adhered to. Action logs are always reviewed according to the schedule
- Ensure compliance to all legislative standards and approved codes of practice.
- To lead and manage minor capital projects.
Experience and Key Attributes:
- Significant experience and understanding of managing maintenance KPI’s and the functional levers relating to people, cost, quality, and service.
- Significant experience and understanding of managing engineering maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- In depth knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to engineering maintenance
