We are looking for a Senior Science Manager to establish and drive research and development in bioactive ingredients with impact on
human health and well-being, with responsibility for guiding how these are translated into functional beverage applications. This role combines deep scientific expertise with strategic leadership to deliver solutions that enhance health benefits, product performance, and consumer experience.

You will work at the forefront of food science and human nutrition, leading projects that integrate advanced formulation techniques, regulatory compliance, health evidence and cutting-edge research partnerships.

 

 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Establish and drive research on functional ingredients (e.g., polyphenols, flavonoids, hop-derived compounds, fibers, peptides, minerals, vitamins) with impact on human health and well-being.
  • Lead the development and optimization of bioactive ingredient formulations to improve solubility, stability, bioavailability, release, and sensory compatibility in beverage matrices.
  • Oversee analytical and formulation workflows, critically evaluating GC/LC(-MS) data, method validation, untargeted workflows, and stability datasets to support both ingredient development and health evidence generation.
  • Build and maintain a strong network with academia, CROs, and consortia to advance ingredient research and evidence generation.
  • Ensure compliance with EU/global food regulations and health-claim standards (e.g., EFSA), designing research and communication strategies that meet safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide scientific leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Represent Carlsberg in external scientific forums and contribute to thought leadership in functional ingredients, nutrition, and health science.

 

 

 

 

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a scientifically driven leader with a passion for innovation and a strong track record in functional ingredient research.

Must-Haves

  • PhD in Human Nutrition, Nutritional Sciences, Physiology, Food Science, Food Chemistry, or a related field, with a strong focus on human health and nutrition.
  • Proven expertise in bioactive ingredients and their health benefits.
  • Strong publication record as first or senior author in relevant scientific areas.
  • Experience in formulating ingredients for improved solubility, stability, and bioavailability in beverage systems.
  • Analytical literacy, with ability to challenge and interpret complex datasets.
  • Awareness of global food regulations and health-claim evidence standards.
  • Fluent English communication skills.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Established network within academia, CROs, and scientific consortia.
  • Experience in designing publishable research aligned with regulatory and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with advanced formulation technologies and sensory optimization.
